Wine Spout | Day 7

Today we left Estella at 7 AM, it was dark, peaceful and cool. About 2 1/2 kilometers outside of town, we came to a winery that has a wall with a wine spout sticking out of it. This is the famous wine spout that you are encouraged to drink in order to make it to Santiago - yeah right!! At 7AM?!

Upon leaving the winery, we immediately start climbing into the mountains again, and through oak tree forests and on narrow pathways. Every so often there would be a clearing, and you could see medieval castles perched on top of hilltops. I am fascinated, how in the heck were they able to get those stones up to the top in order to build those thick walls?

After leaving the mountains and rolling hills, we began to walk through vineyards, one after the other. We actually watched this big machine go over the top of rows of grapevines, pulling all the grapes off, and then dumping it into a trailer. Quite efficient.

All in all, it was 14 miles today, about 38,000 steps because of the ups and downs. It was also pretty warm.

Tomorrow we are walking about 18 miles, one of the longest segments of the Camino De Santiago. We will end up in Logrono. The only big unknown for tomorrow is the forecasted rain, and how bad it will be.

Finally, I want to wish Flynn and everyone else on Nantucket a safe and secure next few days. Hurricane Lee is skirting right by the island.
